As the most populated island in the Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke is always buzzing with things to do. Here's a list of the latest events, exhibitions and guided walks to keep you busy.
Taking place over Easter weekend, the 2012 Waiheke Island International Jazz Festival offers a fantastic range of music across a series of scenic venues. The programme will include daytime and evening concerts, along with the late-night Supper Club. The festival will open on April 6th with Good Friday Groove at Rangihoua Estate, and will close with an all-star lineup at the Grand Finale Concert on April 8th.
The Good Friday Groove features headliner Annah Mac, whose latest single 'Girl in Stilletos' is one of the biggest songs of summer, receiving Platinum status and huge radio airplay. Rangihoua Estate in Rocky Bay has a natural amphitheatre in bush-clad surroundings. Local food producers will provide a selection of artisan food stalls during the day.
Festival venues include beachfront restaurants The Dunes in Onetangi and The Bay at Matiatia. The hilltop location of Waiheke Island Resort in Palm Beach acts as the hub, offering stunning ocean views. All of the fully licensed venues will offer a 'jazz menu'. Jazzabout buses will transport visitors from the wharf at Matiatia to the venues throughout the weekend.
Other confirmed acts include: Nathan Haines, Paul Urbana Jones, Pacific Curls, Nairobi Trio, Eddie Raynor, Diana Harris (USA) The Jews Brothers Band, The Alibis, Five Mile Town, Graham Wardrop, Alan Brown, Black Sand Diva, Wonderfish Collective and Marmaduke, The DeSotos, Caitlin Smith, Grant Chilcott, the Alan Brown Project, Nigel Gavin & Richard Adams.
Tickets will be available from the Waiheke Information Centre. Why not make a weekend of it and enjoy all that this beautiful island has to offer? A great range of accommodation is available, so contact us on 09 372 1234 to book your jazz weekend today.
